  • The Voyagers series by Hanna Heino captures the enigmatic presence of figures emerging from the wilderness of northern Lapland. Handcrafted in Finland over a ten-month process, these works reflect her immersion in remote Arctic landscapes, translating experience into sculptural forms that move between the familiar and the otherworldly.

Drawing from time spent in the wilderness, Heino imbues the series with a sense of introspection and quiet ambiguity. The works move beyond representation, operating as meditations on the relationship between human presence and environment, where the visible and the unseen, the known and the imagined, remain in tension.

Each piece is handbuilt in stoneware and porcelain, shaped through an intuitive engagement with material. Glazes and engobes are applied to build surface depth, creating layers that reward close observation. Subtle variations in tone and finish, from matte to gloss, introduce contrast while maintaining a cohesive, organic language.

The series carries an underlying sense of movement and transformation. Forms suggest entities in passage, shaped by distance and condition, conveying resilience and adaptability. The works hold a quiet narrative of transition, aligned with the rhythms of the landscapes from which they emerge.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

HANNA HEINO

Born Turku, Finland, 1983

A contemporary Finnish sculptor and artist, Heino is known for a refined and sensitive aesthetic that draws from the natural world. Her practice is grounded in quiet observation, with each work reflecting an accumulation of personal experience and inviting an intimate dialogue between object and observer. Rooted in authentic materials and traditional techniques, her work acknowledges the lineage of craftsmanship while remaining distinctly contemporary.

Her practice centers on unique ceramic sculptures that combine altered textures and abstract forms while maintaining a respect for clay in its essential state. Variations in tone and surface are carefully composed within a restrained palette, with considered glazing that enhances depth and presence. Historical references and architectural influences are interwoven with subtle natural cues, creating works that extend beyond fixed time or place.

Based in Turku, Finland, Heino established her studio in 2019 following fifteen years of experience in interior design and residential development. Without formal training in ceramics, she developed her practice through direct engagement with material and process.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Paris, Brussels, and Milan. In 2024, she received the 5th Officine Saffi Award, including the Casa Wabi residency prize. Her works are held in private and public collections internationally, including the Royal Mansour in Casablanca, Cartier’s New York mansion, and Hotel Maria in Finland.
